Today's the big day for lawmakers to tackle pension reform. They're back in Springfield on the taxpayer's dime but legislative leaders haven't even come to an agreement on how to fix the systems. Democrats are pushing a cost-shift proposal that could force school districts to raise property taxes on downstate and suburban schools. House GOP Leader Tom Cross says he won't vote for any tax hikes. Meanwhile, each lawmaker is being paid 111-dollars plus the cost of travel for making the trip to Springfield to hash out the issue.
