Governor Quinn and the Serve Illinois Commission recently recognized 23 Illinois residents and five businesses with the Governor’s Volunteer Service Award. The award is meant to recognize volunteers that have made a profound difference in Illinois and help foster a vibrant volunteer environment in the state. Individual awards are presented in 5 regions of the state and in three age categories. Northwest Illinois award recipients include, in the Youth Division - Blake Matson of Orion for service to Child Life Charities, and in the Senior Division – Judy DeBoever of Geneseo for service to Aisle of Flags, Inc. According to Executive Director of Serve Illinois Brandon Bodor, service comes in a variety of forms, but what remains constant is that everyone can serve. Each year in Illinois more than 2-point-7 million residents engage in volunteerism.
