Pension Issues

"When the truth is found to be lies....when the joy in you dies."

Baby boomers might recognize that as the first line of a hit song by Jefferson Airplane in 1967.

Modern day observers might equate those same lyrics to the latest approach by Illinois House Speaker Michael Madigan and his  comments this week that relative to pension system contributions, the quote free lunch for downstate and suburban schools should be ended. Madigan also said that those schools don’t pay anything for retirement costs and he also deftly tried to shift the blame on to those schools as the reason for the shortfall in the state’s underfunded pension system.

Two local school superintendents are not in lock step with the Speaker’s point of view.
