Secretary of State Jesse White is reminding people to travel safely this Labor Day and to not drink and drive. Published reports are forecasting that this Labor Day will be the heaviest traveled in five years. Today, Secretary of State Police, IDOT, the Illinois State Police and local law enforcement agencies are conducting DUI patrols in a statewide effort being called, “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over.” According to the Illinois Department of Transportation, during the 2011 Labor Day weekend, there were nine crash fatalities statewide, three of which were alcohol-related. Secretary White says, Labor Day is a day that we as a nation come together to honor the working men and women whose effort and dedication continues to help make this country the greatest in the world. He encourages everyone to remember to celebrate safely and responsibly, and not to drink and drive. He suggests calling a cab, using public transportation, or designating a sober driver.
