Joan E. McMullen-Ely, 80, of Toulon, passed away at 10:28 a.m. Sunday, March 31, 2013, at Methodist Medical Center, Peoria.
Joan was born July 8, 1932, in rural Bradford, Illinois, the daughter of Curtis L. and Letha Montooth Wilson. She married William Keith McMullen on March 2, 1952, in Elmira. He died July 13, 1998, in Peoria. She then married Harold Ely on July 21, 2003. He survives.
Also surviving are one sister, Barb (Don) Morrissey of rural Wyoming; one brother, Oliver (Marcine) Wilson of Eldridge, IA; two nieces, Ann (Steven) Jackson of Wyoming, IL, and Kymberly (David) Leyden of Iowa City, IA; four nephews, Steven (Pam) Morrissey of Senatobia, MS, Robert (Nancy) Morrissey of Wyoming, IL, Philip (Jill) Morrissey of Toulon, IL, and Kirk (Lisa) Wilson of Eldridge, IA; several great-nieces, great-nephews, great-great-nieces and great-great-nephews; two step-daughters, Melanie (Tom) Boudreau, and Lorene (Stan) Foglesong both of Toulon; one step-son, Brian (Marilyn) Ely of Toulon; 11 step-grandchildren; and 10 step-great-grandchildren. Her parents preceded her in death.
Joan worked as a beautician and a farm partner with her husband Keith. She was a member of the Toulon United Methodist Church and the Christian Women’s Club. Joan enjoyed her faith, family, and friends. She also loved gardening, traveling to Branson, and dancing at the Hub Ballroom.
Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday, April 4, 2013, at Toulon Funeral Home, Toulon. Rev. Paul Wier will officiate. Visitation will be from 5 to 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, April 3, 2013, at Toulon Funeral Home. Burial will be in Elmwood Township Cemetery, Elmwood, Illinois.
