Helen E. Kretschmar Biasella, 93, a resident of Bickford Cottage, Moline, passed away on Easter Sunday at Bickford Cottage. A memorial service celebrating her life will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, April 6, at St Malachy’s Catholic Church in Geneseo, IL. Father Michael Pakula will officiate. Graveside funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, April 5, 2013 at Homewood Memorial Gardens in Homewood, IL. Memorials may be left to Heartland Hospice or a charity of donor’s choice in Helen’s name. Vandemore Funeral Home, Geneseo is assisting the family with arrangements.
Helen was born on March 5, 1920 in Chicago Heights, IL, the daughter of Ralph and Carrie (Highland) Ferguson. She was a graduate of Bloom Township High School in Chicago Heights. Helen was united in marriage to Howard E. Kretschmar on April 19, 1942, who preceded her in death on December 30, 1967. In 1979 she married Hugo Biasella of Chicago Heights, who died in 1981. From 1970 to 2011 she resided in Florida. She was a member of Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Spring Hill, FL, was active in the Sons of Norway organization, and was on the committee that led to the construction of a new YMCA building in Spring Hill. She was dedicated to life-long education and enjoyed international travel.
Survivors include 3 sons: David (Maria) Kretschmar of Spring Hill, FL, Tim (Susan) Kretschmar of Geneseo, IL, and Tom (Leigh Ann) Kretschmar of Spring, TX; 6 grandchildren: Katie (Gareth) James, Vancouver, BC, Joseph Kretschmar, Spring Hill, FL, Ross (Jill) Kretschmar, Minneapolis, MN, Paul (Sarah) Kretschmar, Moline, IL, Kelly Kretschmar, Houston, TX and Andrew (Erin) Kretschmar, Austin, TX; 3 great grandchildren; and 1 sister: Agnes Herbst, Fletcher, NC.
