Dorothy M. Bengston, 88, of Kewanee, IL passed away Monday, April 8, 2013 at her daughter’s home in rural Annawan. A funeral service celebrating Dorothy’s life will be held 11:00 AM Thursday, April 11, 2013 at the Mineral United Methodist Church in Mineral, IL. Rev. Terry Lancaster will officiate. Per Dorothy’s request, cremation rites will be accorded following the service and inurnment will take place Friday at Pleasantview Cemetery in Kewanee, IL. Visitation for Dorothy will be 9:30-11:00 AM (1 ½ hours prior to the service) at the church. Memorials may be left to the Dorothy Bengston Memorial Fund.
Dorothy was born October 4, 1924 in Kewanee, IL, the daughter of Homer and Minnie (Calcutt) DeBord. She attended school in Kewanee and was united in marriage to Hayden J. Bengston on November 24, 1946 in Kewanee, IL. He preceded her in 1990. She worked for 17 years at Novak Cleaners in Kewanee and then later at the Dairy Queen in Kewanee until her retirement at the age of 83.
Dorothy belonged to the Flemish American Club in Kewanee for 50 years. She was a former member of the Business and Professional Women’s Club. Dorothy loved playing bingo and going to the Riverboat.
Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law: Karen (Ted) Countryman of Annawan, IL; grandson: Jason (Erin) Gilbraith; 4 step-grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren: Chandler, Cameron, Carter, and Dylan Gilbraith; 11 step-great-grandchildren, 6 step great-great-grandchildren; her twin sister: Doris Porter; sister: Darlene Begyn both of Kewanee, IL; and 4 nieces and nephews.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, 2 sisters, 2 brothers, and 1 granddaughter, Cherie Gilbraith.
