Darlene L. Johnson, 84, of Geneseo passed away Sunday, May 5, 2013 at the Geneseo Good Samaritan Village. A funeral service celebrating her life will be held 11:00 AM Wednesday May 8, 2013 at Vandemore Funeral Home in Geneseo. Deacon Harley Chaffee will officiate. Burial will follow in Rosedale Cemetery, Cambridge, IL. Visitation for Darlene will be held 1 hour prior to the service (10-11 AM) at the funeral home. Memorials may be left to the Geneseo Humane Society.
Darlene was born July 15, 1928, in Atkinson, IL the daughter of Ferdinand and Sophie (Mariman) Floming. She was a graduate of Atkinson High School and was united in marriage to Kenneth R. Johnson on June 7, 1973 in Cambridge, IL. He preceded her in 2006. Darlene was a bank teller at the Atkinson Trust and Savings Bank for 16 years. She belonged to St. Malachy’s Catholic Church, and the Women of the Moose. Darlene loved animals, crocheting, puzzles, cross stitching and all crafts.
Survivors include her daughter: Cheryl Benoodt of Geneseo; 1 granddaughter: Tracy (Greg) Wenkman of Naples, FL ; step-daughter: Kay (Rich) Bennett of Washington, IA; step-daughter-in-law: Judy Johnson of Kewanee, IL; 4 step-grandchildren, 5 step-great-grandchildren, and 4 step- great-great-grandchildren.
Darlene was preceded in death by her parents, husband, 2 sisters: Carol Edward and Lorraine Powell; brother: Roger Floming; and 1 step-son: Roger Johnson.
