Robert “Bob” M. Larson, 85, of Sarasota, FL, formerly of Kewanee, passed away Thursday, May 16, 2013 at Sarasota Memorial Hospital in Sarasota, FL.Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM, Wednesday, May 22 at Rux Funeral Home in Kewanee. Rev. Joe Schmidt will officiate. Visitation will be held from 11:00 AM until the time of the service at the funeral home. Burial will be in Pleasant View Cemetery where military rites will be accorded by the Kewanee Veterans Council. Memorials may be directed to the Kidney Foundation or to the Diabetes Association.
He was born July 9, 1927 in Elkader, IA on his grandfather’s farm, the son of Joseph E. and Gladys (Cook) Larson. He married Evelyn E. Asbell on February 8, 1964 in Kewanee. She survives, as do two sons, David M. (Janene) Larson of Arlington, VA and Karl Stiles of Sarasota, FL, a daughter, Rene Bosch of Elgin, IL and five grandchildren, Francesca, Emilia and Christian Larson, all of Arlington, VA, Skyler McCool of Elgin, IL and Sarah Thomson of Elgin, IL. He was preceded in death by his parents, and two sons, Daniel and Joseph.
Bob graduated from Elkader High School in 1945. He served his country in the U.S. Navy in the Submarine Corps on the USS Carboneo #337, in the South Pacific. He had worked as an insurance salesman for American Republic Insurance Company for 42 years until his retirement in 1998. He was a lifetime member of the Kewanee American Legion and VFW and the Kewanee Elks, Moose and Eagles Lodges and the WWII Veterans League. He enjoyed his garden, baseball and was an avid Iowa Hawkeye fan.
