Harold M. Gustafson, 90, of Annawan, passed away Monday, May 27, 2013 at Hammond-Henry Hospital, Geneseo. A funeral service celebrating Harold’s life will be held 10:30 am Saturday, June 1, 2013 at Annawan Community United Methodist Church. Rev. Dan Wright will officiate. Burial will follow at Hooppole Cemetery with Military Honors by Hooppole American Legion. Visitation for Harold will be 5-7 pm, Friday at Vandemore Funeral Home in Atkinson. Memorials may be left to Howe’s Park, Annawan.
Harold was born July 2, 1922 in Kewanee, IL, the son of Emil and Selma (Johnson) Gustafson. He was united in marriage to Donna J. Nicholson on October 10, 1948 in Kewanee, IL and she preceded him in death in 2011. Harold proudly served his country as a Sargent in the U.S. Air Force during WWII. Harold first farmed in rural Hooppole and later worked at the Kewanee Boiler for over 25 years, retiring in 1984.
He was a member of the Annawan Community United Methodist Church as well as the Hooppole American Legion. He was a Tax Assessor for 20 years in Yorktown Township. Harold was an avid Cubs fan and enjoyed his garden.
Survivors include 2 sons: James (Mary Clair) Gustafson, Atkinson, IL, William “Boo” (Robin) Gustafson, Annawan, IL; 2 daughters: Debra Gustafson, Annawan, IL, Dawn (David) Croegaert, Ogden, IL; 1 brother: Marvin Gustafson, Galva, IL; 1 sister: Edith Polson, Prophetstown, IL; 3 grandchildren: Heather Gustafson, Tony Gustafson, Amy (Mark) Phillips; 5 great grandchildren: Jamie Gustafson, Cody Phillips, Cameron Phillips, Castin Gustafson, Connor Gustafson.
He was preceded by his Parents, his wife Donna, 2 sisters, 3 brothers and 1 daughter Pamela.
