Shane M. Ekin, 40, of Cambridge passed away Sunday, July 7, 2013 as a result of injuries sustained in a jet ski accident on the Rock River in Milan while trying to save a friend. A memorial service celebrating Shane’s life will be held 7:00 PM Thursday, July 11, 2013 at Vandemore Funeral Home in Geneseo. Rev. David Joyce will officiate. Cremation rites have been accorded and inurnment will follow at a later date in Rosedale Cemetery, Cambridge. Visitation for Shane will be 3-7 PM Thursday prior to the service at the funeral home. Memorials may be left to the Shane Ekin Memorial Fund for Maddie’s education fund.
Shane was born August 22, 1972 in Silvis, IL, the son of Donald and Marcia (Swanson) Ekin. He was a 1991 graduate of Cambridge HS. He was united in marriage to Danielle Cross on July 17, 2008 in Key West, FL. Shane was currently the owner / operator of Ekin Trucking in Cambridge. Shane had been a former member of the Cambridge Fire Department and was a devoted family man as a husband, father, son and grandfather. He enjoyed jet skiing, family parties, fishing and his beloved pet, Newt.
Shane now rests in the hands of the Lord.
Survivors include his wife: Danielle, his parents: Don (Marcia) Ekin of Cambridge and Marcia (Richard) Wells of Cambridge; he was the proud father of Haley Ekin of Cambridge and proud Papa of her daughter, Maddie; 1 son Isaak Woodruff of Cambridge; 2 brothers: Luke (Holly) Wells of Galva and Dan Wells of Cambridge; 3 sisters: Angela (Mike) Walker, Sherri (Brad) Peterson, Alisha (Brett) Carlson all of Cambridge; numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, and many loving friends.
Shane was preceded in death by his grandparents.
