Clifford J. “Babe” Doss Jr., 77, of rural Kewanee, died at 8:25 PM Friday, July 26, 2013 at Kewanee Care. Funeral services will be at 10 AM on Tuesday July 30 at Rux Funeral Home, Galva. Rev. Karen Martin and Rev. Dan Wright will officiate. Visitation will be on Monday from 5-8 PM at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Galva Cemetery. Memorials can be directed to the Kewanee Community Rural Fire Department, Galva FFA or the Stark County Ambulance Service.He was born on April 17, 1936 at the Collinson Maternity Home in Galva, the son of Clifford and Leona Mahaffey Doss Sr. He married Patricia “Pat” Hanson on July 22, 1956 in Galva. She survives as well as 3 daughters, Barb (Al) Werkheiser of Kewanee, Kathy (Royce) Johnson of Cambridge and Carol Kitterman (and Bruce Smith) of Galva and 6 grandchildren, Wade and Beth Werkheiser, Jill and Matt Johnson and Mitchell and Mackenzie Kitterman. He was preceded in death by his parents and 2 brothers, Leslie and Kyle.
Babe graduated from Galva High School in 1954. He had farmed in the Kewanee and Galva areas and for 34 years had milked cows. He was a member of the Grace United Methodist Church and had been Chairman of the Trustees and Chairman of the Executive Board. He was a member of the Kewanee Community Volunteer Fire Department for 20 years and a member of the Henry County Farm Bureau. In his early years, he did tractor pulling and later was involved with the Galva Pullers and Tri-County Garden Tractor Club. In 2012, he received the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Henry County Beef Association. Known as the “go to guy,” Babe had a reputation for being able to fix and repair almost anything and he enjoyed working out of his farm shop. He was a quiet supporter of various organizations and was passionate about his grandchildren and their varied activities.
