John W. “Jack” Berlin, 80, of Kewanee, Il. died at 5:15 A.M. Friday, August 23, 2013 at Royal Oaks Care Center in Kewanee. Jack was born March 17, 1933 in Kewanee the son of Robert and Daisy (McHenry) Berlin. He attended Kewanee Schools. Jack married Margaret Stout on March 31, 1957 in Kewanee. She survives along with one son Pat (Pam) Berlin of Bradford, Il., one daughter Peggy Berlin of Kewanee, six grandchildren, Angie (Troy) Wall, Andy Huffman, Chad Berlin, Amber Berlin, Ashlee Boers, Todd Boers and his special friend Ashley Schultz, six great grandchildren with one on the way, several nieces and nephews and his dog Macy.
Jack was preceded in death by his parents, one brother Robert Berlin Jr.and a sister June Dhess and two nieces.
Jack was a machinist at Berlins Machine Shop until 1976. He maintained the machines at Empire Clothing Co. for 18 years until his retirement. For the last several years he has enjoyed helping his nephew Bob and Buck Moens with farm work
Jack was a veteran of the Air Force serving in the Korean War.
He enjoyed fishing, playing cards, hunting for golf balls and spending time with his family.
Funeral services will be at 11:00 A.M. Tuesday, August 27, 2013 at the Schueneman-Tumbleson Funeral Home, Kewanee, Il. Rev. Dr. Kevin Siscoe of the First Baptist Church will officiate. Burial will be in Evergreen Memory Gardens rural Kewanee where military honors will be accorded by the Kewanee Veterans Council. Visitation will be from 5-7 P.M. Monday, August 26, 2013 at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Kewanee Humane Society.
