Dr. Roger M. Pray

Dr. Roger M. Pray, 66, of Geneseo passed away Sunday, September 22, 2013 at his home after a courageous battle with cancer. A funeral service celebrating Roger’s life will be held 10:30 AM Thursday, September 26th at First Lutheran Church, Geneseo. Rev. Dr. Arthur Bergren will officiate. Visitation for Roger will be held 4-7 PM Wednesday, September 25th at Vandemore Funeral Home, Geneseo. Per his request, cremation rites will follow the service and a private inurnment will be held at Oakwood Cemetery, Geneseo. Memorials may be left to First Lutheran Church, the Geneseo Fire Department, or the Don Cherry VFW Post 5083.

Dr. Pray was born August 31, 1947 in Pana, IL the son of Merle and Roberta (Ryan) Pray. After graduating from Mt. Auburn High School, Roger attended the University of Illinois where he achieved his degree in Veterinary Medicine in 1972. While at the university, he met and married Linda Wheeler of Bushnell, IL.

Upon graduation, Roger and Linda moved to Cambridge, IL where he began a long and successful career as a community veterinarian at Cambridge Enterprises and Geneseo Veterinary Service. In the fall of 1978 Roger moved his young but growing family to their current residence in rural Geneseo, IL. Dr. Pray practiced in the Cambridge and Geneseo communities until his recent retirement this past May. Roger was active in both the Cambridge and Geneseo business and social communities up to his passing on Sunday and will be dearly missed.

Roger is survived by his wife: Linda; 2 daughters: Annette (Steve) Marchant of El Paso, TX and Bethany (Michael) Winkleman of Chicago, IL; 2 sons: Kevin (Rebecca) Pray of Omaha, NE and Mitchell (Rebecca) Pray of Falls Church, VA; 7 grandchildren: Jonathon, Nicholas, Matthew, and Anthony Pray, Jackson and Brecken Marchant, and James Winkleman; 1 sister: Marcia (Steve) Downs Brockelsby of Taylorville, IL

Roger was preceded in death by his parents.
