Richard Dean DeWolfe, 78, of Wyoming, died at 5:35 a.m. Sunday, September 29, 2013, at OSF St. Francis Medical Center, Peoria.Dick was born June 2, 1935, in Wyoming, the son of Roy Ivan and Hazel Darlene Kitterman DeWolfe. Dick married the love of his life Barbara Fern Pritchard on June 19, 1954, in Wyoming. She survives.
Also surviving are their children, Denise (Philip) Schaffer of rural Wyoming, Diane Baker of Wyoming, Debra (Rob) Polk of Wyoming, David (Susy) DeWolfe of Wyoming, Drinda (Pat) Maher of Wyoming, and Dennis (Pam) DeWolfe of Chapin, SC; 17 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren; one brother, Jack DeWolfe of Florida; two brothers-in-law, Werner Rapp of Wyoming and Jim (Jeanette) Pritchard of Washington, IL; and many nieces and nephews.
Dick was an over the road truck driver and mechanic for 42 years, and enjoyed tinkering with small engines. He was extremely proud of his children and grandchildren who loved Papa Dick with all their hearts. His interests were horses and sports of all kinds, especially the Cleveland Browns and Friday Night Stark County Football. Dick was also known for his one liners and dry sense of humor which we will all dearly miss.
Cremation has been accorded.
Dick was a member of the First Congregational United Church of Christ in Wyoming, where funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, October 4, 2013. Rev. Matthew Noffke will officiate. Visitation will be from 5 to 8:00 p.m. Thursday, October 3, 2013, at First Congregational United Church of Christ in Wyoming. Burial of ashes will be in Wyoming Cemetery following funeral service on Friday.
