George R. Homer, 75, of Kewanee, passed away at 10:15 PM, Friday, October 25, 2013 at his home.Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM, Wednesday, October 30 at Rux Funeral Home in Kewanee. Pastor Darrell Pack will officiate. Visitation will be held from 11:30 AM until the time of the service at the funeral home. Burial will be in Evergreen Memory Gardens in rural Kewanee where military rites will be accorded by the Kewanee Veterans Council. Memorials may be directed to Preferred Hospice.
He was born April 20, 1938 in Kewanee, the son of Harold and Minnie (Rohrig) Homer. He married Marjorie S. Howes on October 20, 1963. Survivors include his wife, a son, Steve Homer of Knoxville, TN, a daughter, Jeri (Tim) Hallinan of Macomb, IL, two brothers, Albert Homer of Kewanee and LeRoy Homer of Peoria, IL, a sister, Sandy (Don) Spets of Port Charlotte, FL and three grandchildren, Christopher, Sean and Quinlan Hallinan. He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Roger and a son, Bradley.
George graduated from Wethersfield High School. He served his country in the Army and was honorably discharged in 1962. He worked at Hysters in Kewanee from 1965 until his retirement. He was a member of the Kewanee Assembly of God Church. He was always willing to lend a helpful hand and had volunteered at the Henry County Senior Citizens Center. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, camping, bowling and stock car races.
