KEWANEE - Mary Ann Miskinis, 65, of Kewanee, died at 9:30 AM, Wednesday, December 11, 2013 at her home.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11:00 AM, Tuesday, December 17 at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church. Celebrant will be Rev. Michael Hussey O.M.I. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the services at the church. Private inurnment will be held in Mt. Olivet Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to the Henry County Humane Society or to a charity of the donor’s choice. Rux Funeral Home in Kewanee is in charge of arrangements.
She was born January 23, 1948 in Kewanee, the daughter of Stanley and Clara (Reiff) Miskinis. Survivors include her brother, John (Judy) Miskinis of Kewanee, two nephews, Jesup (Sally) Miskinis of Rock Island and Josh (Carrie) Miskinis of Kewanee, a great nephew, Parker and a great niece, Jorrie. She was preceded in death by her parents.
Mary Ann graduated from Kewanee High School in 1966 and from Illinois State University with a Bachelors Degree in Physical Education. While at Illinois State she played on the softball team. In her early years she had taught at a Catholic School in Spring Valley, Visitation Catholic School, Kewanee Schools and had been a P.E. teacher at Irving School. She had worked at Black Hawk East as Fitness Center Coordinator and had also worked for Dot Larson. She was also a Dog Whisperer, having been a pet caretaker in her home for the past 10 years. She was a pet grief counselor and had done free lance photography. She was an avid dog lover and had various animal interests. She played softball for the Kewanee Ball Hawks and loved to play tennis, having taught lessons and private lessons through the Kewanee Park District. She was a member of St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church. Mary Ann was very active in the lives of her nephews and her great niece and nephew.
