David L. Schroeder

David L. Schroeder, 55, of Geneseo, passed away Monday, December 30, 2013 at GenesisMedicalCenter, Illini Campus, Silvis, IL. A local visitation will be held from 5-7 pm on Thursday January 2nd at Vandemore Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Geneseo. A memorial mass will then be held on Saturday, January 4, 2014 at St. Maria Gorreti Catholic Church in Arlington, TX. As per his wishes Cremation Rites have been accorded and inurnment will be in the church cemetery in Arlington, TX. Memorials may be made to the David Schroeder Memorial Fund.

David was born on July 23, 1958 in Bryan, TX, the son of Otto and Doris (Fleck) Schroeder. He was a 1976 graduate of ArlingtonHigh School. He then went on to earn a Bachelor’s degree in computer science from StephenF.AustinUniversity in Nacogdoches, TX. He was united in marriage to Dee Nelson on June 21, 1986 in Richardson, TX. They later separated. David spent the last fifteen years working as an IT Project Manager for Deere & Company in Moline.

David was a member of St. Malachy’s Catholic Church in Geneseo, the Knights of Columbus, and his Cursillo Prayer Group. He was an avid outdoorsman and had a passion for forestry and conservation. He enjoyed spending time on his land and loved the mountains of Red River, NM. He cherished spending time with his family in Texas and taking extended vacations with them.

He is survived by his daughter, Lauren Schroeder, Bishop Hill, IL; his son, Patrick Schroeder, University of Illinois, Champaign, IL; his parents, Otto and Doris Schroeder, Arlington, TX; sisters: Ann (Keith) Barfield, Coppell, TX, Karen (Jeff) Miener, Kirkwood, MO; brothers: Otto “Sonny” (Kathy) Schroeder, Coppell, TX, Jim (Anne) Schroeder, Duxbury, MA; 9 nieces and nephews; and girlfriend, Robin Smith and her daughter Kelsie of Geneseo.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents.
