Kenneth J. Sturtewagen

Kenneth J. Sturtewagen, 76, of Atkinson passed away unexpectedly Wednesday, January 1, 2014 at his home. A Mass of Christian Burial celebrating Ken’s life will be held 10:00 AM Saturday, January 4, 2014 at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church, Atkinson. Rev. S. Stephen Engelbrecht will celebrate. Burial will follow in St. Anthony’s Cemetery, Atkinson. Visitation for Kenny Joe will be 2-7 PM Friday, January 3rd at Vandemore Funeral Home, Atkinson where a Rosary will be recited at 1:30 PM. Memorials may be left to the Kenneth J. Sturtewagen Memorial Fund.

Kenny Joe was born June 9, 1937 in rural Atkinson, IL, the son of Joseph and Antoinette (VanNorway) Sturtewagen. He was a 1955 graduate of AtkinsonHigh School and was united in marriage to Annabelle Emery on February 20, 1960 in St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in Atkinson, IL. He was a member of the US Navy Reserves and retired after working for 30 years at the John Deere in the Plow Planter Cylinder Division.

Kenny Joe was a member of St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in Atkinson, the U.A.W, Western League Rolle Bolle Club, Atkinson Rolle Bolle Club, East End Rolle Bolle Club, Annawan Rolle Bolle Club, Mineral Rolle Bolle Club, Geneseo Rolle Bolle Club, and the Moose Rolle Bolle Club. He was an International and World, State, Western League Champion, and Wednesday Night Atkinson League Rolle Bolle Champion. Kenny Joe was a member of the Atkinson Fire Department for 25 years and also enjoyed helping his son Shad with Sturtewagen Mowing and More

Survivors include his wife: Annabelle; 2 sons: Shawn (Diane) Sturtewagen of Mitchellville, IA and Shane (Stacey Gripp) Sturtewagen of Atkinson; daughter-in-law: Heather Sturtewagen of Atkinson; grandchildren: Nick, Ryan, Dylan, Vince, Eric, and Amber; and brother: Gary (Sandy) Sturtewagen of Geneseo.

He was preceded in death by his parents and son, Shad Sturtewagen.
