KEWANEE - Bernard T. “Bernie” Polowy, 65, of Kewanee, died at 7:03 AM Friday, January 17, 2014 in the emergency room at Kewanee Hospital.
Cremation has been accorded and a memorial service will be held at 6:00 PM, Tuesday, January 21 at Rux Funeral Home in Kewanee. Deacon Martin VanMeltebeck will officiate. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the services at the funeral home. Memorials may be directed to the Bernard Polowy Memorial Fund.
He was born July 4, 1948 in Kewanee, the son of Andrew J and Mary (Mirocha) Polowy. He married Lynn Freeburg on June 24, 1996 in Kewanee. She survives as do their children, Rachel Freeburg and Thomas Freeburg, both of Kewanee, Angie Polowy of West Liberty, IA and Charles (Amy) Polowy of Geneseo, his mother of Geneseo, a brother, Frank Polowy of Kewanee and four grandchildren, Kristin, Jacob, Jack and Eric Polowy. He was preceded in death by his father.
Bernie graduated from Kewanee High School in 1966 and had worked as a carpenter. In his early years he had worked at John Deere and had done general contracting, snow plowing and operated a storage business. He was of the catholic faith, his favorite color was yellow and he enjoyed arm wrestling, fishing, hunting, frogging, bowling, antiquing and junking, watching James Bond movies and wrestling on TV and he especially enjoyed spending time with his family and friends.
