Robert E. “Bob” De Vore, 75, of Geneseo, passed away Tuesday, January 21, 2014 at his home. Funeral Services celebrating Bob’s life will be held 11:00 AM Monday, January 27, 2014 at Vandemore Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Geneseo. Rev. Floyd West and Deacon Harley Chaffee will officiate. Per his request, cremation rites will be accorded following the funeral service and inurnment will take place at a later date. Visitation for Bob will be held 3-7 PM Sunday, January 20th at the funeral home. Memorials may be left to the Robert E. De Vore Memorial Fund.
Bob was born June 4, 1938 in Atkinson, IL, the son of Ernest R. and Loretta (Herzberg) De Vore. He proudly served in the United States Army. He was united in marriage to Diane Anderson on October 18, 1959 in Geneseo, IL, they later divorced. Bob was a photographer for the Rock Island Arsenal. He also worked at the Cordova Drag Strip for over 50 years where he started the Jr. Drag Strip Program. He loved old cars and was a member of the Maple City Cruisers and the Kewanee Car Club.
Survivors include his daughters: Pam (Gale) Jones of Coal Valley, Paula De Vore of Geneseo, and Rhonda (Craig Dochterman) Dean of Silvis; son: Randy (Tina) De Vore of Albermarle, NC; grandchildren: Megan Dean, Christina Sullivan, Casey Jones, Ben Jones, and Levi De Vore; great grandchildren: Maddison Parmentier, Austin Smith, and Isabel Bristow; and his sister: Katherine Taylor of Albermarle, NC.
