Perry Johanson, 77, of Geneseo, IL, passed away Friday, January 24, 2014 at Geneseo Good Samaritan Village. A memorial service celebrating his life will be held at 1:00 PM on Saturday, February 1st at Vandemore Funeral Homes, Geneseo. Visitation for Perry will be 1 hour prior (Noon – 1:00 PM) to the service on Saturday February 1st. As per his wishes Cremation Rites have been accorded. Memorials may be made to Geneseo Good Samaritan Village.
Perry was born on September 26, 1936 in Kalix, Sweden, the son of Gustav and Elise (Strand) Johansson. He was united in marriage to Geraldine Hayes on November 26, 1960 in Chicago, IL. He was a self-employed carpenter for 45 years.
Perry was very proud of becoming a U.S. Citizen in 1965. He was a member of several Swedish clubs in Chicago and also sang in the Swedish Men’s Choir. He loved sports and played soccer in Sweden before moving over to the US. Perry loved hockey and was a fan of the Chicago Blackhawks. He also followed the Chicago White Sox and the Minnesota Vikings. He enjoyed all water activities, especially boating, water skiing, and spending time on Lake Michigan and in northern Wisconsin. In the winter he enjoyed snow skiing.
He is survived by his wife Geraldine; daughter: Yvonne (James) Wayne, Geneseo, IL; Kevin Johanson, Chicago, IL; 3 grandchildren; sisters: Sonja and Kerstin in Sweden; brothers: Martin, Carl-Gunner, Sven-Eric and Harry all in Sweden.
