Elsie M. Minnaert, 92, of Geneseo passed away Saturday, March 8, 2014 at Hillcrest Home, Geneseo. A funeral mass celebrating her life will be held at 10:30 am on Friday March 14 at St. Malachy’s Catholic Church. Father Michael Pakula will celebrate. Burial will follow at North Cemetery in Geneseo. A visitation for Elsie will be from 4- 7 pm on Thursday March 13 at Vandemore Funeral Homes, Geneseo, where a rosary will be recited at 3:30pm. Memorials may be left to Hillcrest Home or Alzheimer’s Association.
Elsie was born on May 24, 1921 in rural Geneseo, IL, the daughter of Remi and Irma (Govaere) Turf. She was united in marriage to Clyde E. Minnaert on May 3, 1941 at St. Malachy’s Catholic Church in Geneseo. Elsie assisted Clyde with farming in rural Geneseo for over 40 years.
Elsie was a member of St. Malachy’s Catholic Church, Altar & Rosary, and Circle 11. She was also a member of the Geneseo Moose Lodge, East End Club in East Moline, Friends Circle in Moline, and the Flemish Club of Kewanee. Elsie was an avid Rolle Bolle player and played for many years. She enjoyed flower gardening, mowing the grass, traveling and spending winters in Arizona. She loved all her dogs and loved spending time with her family.
She is survived by her husband Clyde, her daughter Judy Shepherd of Geneseo, her son Lanny (Veronica) Minnaert of Geneseo, 8 grandchildren, 24 great grandchildren, and 4 great great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her son Larry Minnaert, and son-in-law Earl Shepherd.
