Philip E. Payne, 92, of Kewanee, Il. died Thursday, March 13, 2014 at OSF St Francis Medical Center in Peoria, Il. Phil was born January 21, 1922, in Denver, Co. the 15th child of Claude C. and Elva Payne
He married Evelyn Johnson in 1953 in Oakland, Ca. She died in 1960. He then married Mary Woodworth in 1963 in Las Vegas, Nv. She died in 1987. He married Josephine Roper in 1988 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Annawan, Il. She died May 1, 2012. He was also preceded in death by his parents, fifteen brothers and sisters and six brother and sister-in-laws. Surviving is a daughter-in-law Cheryl Roper of Kewanee, two grandchildren Tammy (Rick) McBride and Tony (Julie) Roper, five great grandchildren Erica Cuyler, Jesse Cuyler, Kayla McBride, Mark Roper and Heather Meaker, two great great grandchildren Zoey Cuyler and Anthony J. Roper and a brother-in-law Henry Bellson of Encino, Ca., several nieces and nephews.
Phil was a member of Visitation Catholic Church of St. Mary’s Parish in Kewanee. He was a member of Council 734 Knights of Columbus in Kewanee and Assembly 217 4th Degree Knights of Columbus where he served as faithful navigator and color corps commander. He was also a member of the Flemish-American Club in Kewanee.
Phil had work as an over the road truck driver, a projectionist for movie theatres and in Kewanee a cabinetmaker at Ast Cabinets. He enjoyed western movies and woodworking.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 A.M. Wednesday, March 19, 2014 at Visitation Catholic Church in Kewanee. Fr. Johndamaseni Zilimu will officiate. Burial will be in the Pleasant View Cemetery, Kewanee. Visitation will be from 9:00 A.M. until 10:15 A.M. on Wednesday at the Schueneman-Tumbleson Funeral Home, Kewanee, Il.
