Alice E. Haverback, 95, of Annawan passed away Monday, March 31, 2014 at Royal Oaks Health Care Center in Kewanee, IL. A funeral mass celebrating her life will be held at 10:00am on Thursday, April 3, 2014 at Sacred Heart Church in Annawan. Father S. Stephen Englebrecht will celebrate. Burial will follow at Sacred Heart Cemetery in Annawan. A visitation for Alice will be held from 5 -7pm on Wednesday at Vandemore Funeral Homes, Ltd., Atkinson, where a rosary will be recited at 4:30pm. Memorials for Alice may be made to the Sacred Heart Church.
Alice was born on June 30, 1918 in Annawan, IL, the daughter of John and Elizabeth (DeMay) DeSplinter. She was united in marriage to Herman Haverback on January 15, 1947 at Sacred Heart Church in Annawan. He preceded her in death in 1988. Alice was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Annawan and the Altar and Rosary Society, where she had received the Volunteer of the Year Award. She was also a member of the Annawan Senior Citizens. She loved playing cards and belonged to numerous card clubs. She was talented at crocheting and knitting and made numerous afghans for family members.
She is survived by her sons: Bob (Kolette) Haverback, Kewanee, IL, Jim (Jean) Haverback, East Moline, IL; 7 grandchildren: Brent, Mike, Brad, Darren, Melissa, Jackie, and Drew; 7 great grandchildren and 1 on the way.
She was preceded in death by her husband Herman, her brothers Lawrence and Alphonse DeSplinter, and her grandson Christopher.
