Robert “Bob” VanderMeersch, 92, of Sheffield, IL passed away Monday, June 2, 2014 at Liberty Village in Princeton, IL and finally fulfilled his last wish of joining his wife, “Rosie” who preceded him in death in 2007.A Funeral Mass for Robert will be held 11:00 AM Friday, June 6, 2014 at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Sheffield.Rev. Mark Miller will celebrate.Burial will follow in St. Anthony’s Catholic Church Cemetery, Atkinson.Visitation for Robert will be 4-7 Thursday, June 5th at Vandemore Funeral Home in Atkinson where a Rosary will be recited at 3:30.Memorials may be left to St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Sheffield and the Sheffield Rescue Unit.
Bob was born February 9, 1922 in Atkinson, IL the son of Julius and Bertha (Teerlinck) VanderMeersch.Bob grew up on the farm, worked briefly at International Harvester Foundry in Moline.He was united to Rose Marie Lootens on November 25, 1944 in Moline, IL and they had 10 children.Bob farmed, owned and operated Bob’s Shell Service Station in Sheffield, and drove livestock trucks for the Sheffield Order Buyer.Thru it all his heart belonged to farming from which he retired in 2006. Some of Bob’s greatest loves were a good practical joke, babies, watching his boys play sports, and a clean, straight row in a field.
Survivors include 9 sons and 1 daughter: Joseph (Amy) VanderMeersch, Allan (Sandra) VanderMeersch, Thomas (Jacquelyn) VanderMeersch, Keith (Wendee) VanderMeersch, Mary Jane (Richard) Carlucci, Randall (Karla) VanderMeersch, Lynn VanderMeersch, Terrance (Cressinda) VanderMeersch, Dennis (P.J.) VanderMeersch, Timothy (Darcy) VanderMeersch; 21 grandchildren; 17 great- grandchildren;Sisters: Bernice (Chuck) Termont of Dubuque, IA and Joanne (Mel) Davenport of Hemet, CA; and former foreign exchange student: Michael Reiner of Germany.
Bob was precededin death by his parents, wife, 1 sister: Dorothy Martins and 1 infant brother: Joseph.
