Richard O. "Dick" Hildreth

Richard O. “Dick” Hildreth, 86, of Kewanee, Il. died at 2:12 A.M. Sunday, June 15, 2014 at Kewanee Care Home. Dick was born September 22, 1927 in Kewanee the son of Ralph and Margaret (Duxbury) Hildreth. He graduated from Kewanee High School in 1945 and from Monmouth College in 1950.

Dick served in the Naval Reserves at the close of WWII and was called back to duty during the Korean War.

Dick was employed at Illinois Power in Kewanee and Monmouth, he served as the Director of Personnel and Purchasing at Monmouth College, was the office manager at Gamble Warehouse and retired from serving as an accountant for Lakeworth Christian School in Lakeworth, Fl.

Dick married Emma Long on May 30, 1956 in Abington, Va. She preceded him in death on July 2, 1983. He was also preceded in death by his parents. Dick married Janet (Shurnis) Cummings on May 3, 1996 in West Palm Beach, Fl. She survives along with one son Thomas (Brenda) Hildreth of Lake Zurich, Ill, three grandchildren Nicholas, Chad and Katie Hildreth of Lake Zurich, two stepdaughters Lynne (Alan) McLean of Lake Zurich, Il., Lori Anderson and her friend Michael Wollam of Roselle, Il. and two step granddaughters Jaclyn and Jessica McLean of Lake Zurich.

Dick was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Kewanee and was a member and past president of the Methodist Men in 1954-55. He was a member and past president of the Monmouth Kiwanis club in 1964. Dick enjoyed playing golf and was a fan of the Chicago Cubs, Bulls and Bears.

Memorial services will be at 10:30 A.M. Friday, June 20, 2014 at the Schueneman-Tumbleson Funeral Home, Kewanee, Il. Rev. Paul Copeland of the First United Methodist Church will officiate. Inurnment will be in the Pleasant View Cemetery, Kewanee, Il. , where military honors will be accorded by the Kewanee Veterans Council. Visitation will be from 9:30 A.M. until the time of services on Friday at the funeral home. Memorials may be directed to the First United Methodist Church of Kewanee, Salvation Army or the OSF Hospice. Private online condolences may be shared with the family at
