Agnes Irene Greicius, 84, of Kewanee, died 8:00 p.m. Monday, July 21, 2014 at Royal Oaks Health Care. Agnes was born on September 14, 1926 in Laura, Il,to Oliver and Grace (Yelm) Phelps. She attended a one-room country school and graduated from Williamsfield High School in May of 1944. Agnes married Anton Stanley Greciciuson June 2, 1946 in Kewanee. He preceded her in death January 7, 1981, as well as a grandson Christopher James Greicius, 2 sisters Lora (Camille) Van Steckelman and Edith (Paul) Muntz DePrima, 3 brothers Clyde “Bill” (Marie) Phelps, Robert “Gordon” (Eileen) Phelps, and Donald “Ben” (Joan) Phelps as well as her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Oliver Phelps. Agnes had worked at Montgomery Ward Kewanee Credit Dept. until she married Anton. Surviving are one son Anton (Barbara) Greicius of Little York, Il, one sister-in-law Joan (Ben) Phelps of Kewanee, IL; and many nieces and nephews.
Agnes helped her husband, and mother-in-law, Anna Greicius in farming, as well as running the Greicius Dairy west of Kewanee for many years. She enjoyed reading and crochet. Agnes was a member of the former St. Anthony’s Catholic Church of Kewanee, and currently a member of the St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Kewanee. The Make-A-Wish Foundation was started with the granting of the wish of her grandson Christopher, to be an Arizona Highway Patrolman. Chris was buried in Kewanee in his Arizona Highway Patrol uniform May 3, 1980.
Funeral services will be 1:00 p.m. Friday, July 25, 2014 at Schueneman & Tumbleson funeral home, with Fr. Johndamaseni Zilimu officiating. Visitation will be from 12:00 p.m. until the time of services at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Mount Olivet Cemetery.
