KEWANEE - Maxine Rose Adkins, 75, of Kewanee, died at 10:03 AM, Sunday, August 24, 2014 from injuries sustained in an automobile accident near West Jersey.
Cremation has been accorded and a memorial service will be held at 2:00 PM, Friday, August 29 at Rux Funeral Home in Kewanee. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the services at the funeral home. Inurnment will be held at a later date. Memorials may be directed to the Kewanee Food Pantry.
She was born November 10, 1938 in Geneseo, the daughter of John and Esther (Causemaker) Kleckner. She married Vernon R. Adkins on October 3, 1959 in Annawan. He survives, as do two daughters, Debbie (Barry) Nelson of Roscoe, IL and Kathy Adkins of Kansas City, MO, a brother, Robert Kleckner of San Antonio, TX and two grandchildren, David and Kelly Nelson. She was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers, Duane, John and Don and her sister, Carol Young.
Maxine graduated from Annawan High School in 1956 and from St. Francis College of Nursing in Kewanee. She worked in nursing for 50 years and at Kewanee Hospital for 35 of those years.
