Irene L. Sollenberger

Irene L. Sollenberger, 98, of Kewanee, Il. and formerly of Toulon, Il. died at 12:55 A.M. Thursday, August 28, 2014 at Kewanee Care Home.

Irene was born May 20, 1916 in New Windsor, Il. the daughter of Charles and Olive (Clark) Rosene. Irene married Alvin Sollenberger on December 30, 1939 in Davenport, Ia. The couple moved to Toulon in 1948 to start their farming adventure. Irene also worked at Nelsons Sprinkler Factory in Princeville and retired from there when her husband retired from the F.S. Company in Wyoming

Irene was a member of Calvary Lutheran Church and was baptized and confirmed there when growing up. While residing in Toulon, she was a member of the Methodist church where she taught Sunday school and was a member of the Ruth Circle. Moving to Kewanee, she attended First Baptist Church with her family. She enjoyed dancing at the Flemish American Club in Kewanee, spending time with her family and friends, reading her spiritual poems and special readings, working in her flower gardens, crafts and needle point. She was a very active 98 year old woman who was still driving her car.

Surviving is a son Larry (Sue) Sollenberger of Kewanee, two grandchildren Kim (Mike) Cathelyn of Geneseo, Il. and Jeremy Sollenberger of Kewanee, two great granddaughters Kelsey and Kiersten Cathelyn of Geneseo, one sister Dorothy Reed of Seattle, Wa and nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband Alvin on April 5, 1984, her parents, three brothers Edward, Donald and Dale Rosene and two sisters Mae Luxmore and Barbara Morgan.

A celebration of Irene’s life will be held at 11:00 A.M. Tuesday, September 2, 2014 at the Schueneman-Tumbleson Funeral Home, Kewanee, Il. Pastor Dan Craig of the First Baptist Church will officiate. Burial will be in Evergreen Memory Gardens, rural Kewanee. Visitation will be one hour prior to the services on Tuesday at the funeral home. Memorials may be directed to the First Baptist Church of Kewanee. Private online condolences may be shared with the family at www.schuememantumblesonfuneralhome.com.
