Russell Andrew Hunter, Jr., 78, of Kewanee, Il. died June 22, 2012 at Methodist Medical Center in Peoria, Il. Russell was born June 30, 1933 in Chicago, Il. the son of Russell Andrew and Ruth (Kaufman) Hunter, Sr. He graduated from Lane Technical High School were he played football. After graduation, he also played semi-pro football for a time. He then went into training to become a manager for F. W. Woolworth Co. in Chicago. While working in the store he met his future wife Shirley A. Kaslo. They were married on February 11, 1952 in Crown Point, In.
She survives along with two sons Michael (Jan) Hunter of Prophetstown, Il., Brian (Tracey) Hunter of Trophy Club, Texas, a daughter Linda D. (Tom) Farley of Galesburg, Il., six grandchildren and two step grandsons and one sister-in-law Sylvia Puntarec of Kewanee.
Russell was preceded in death by his parents and a sister Dorothy.
Russell managed Woolworth Stores in Galesburg and Chicago until many were closed in the late 60’s and early 70’s. He later worked as a garage door repairman. Russell and Shirley moved to Pompano Beach, Fl and in 1985 to Wellman, Iowa. There Russell had a business of painting and hanging wallpaper. Following his retirement in 2004 the couple moved to Kewanee, Il.
Russell was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Kewanee.
Funeral services will be at 11:00 A.M. Thursday, June 28, 2012 at the First United Methodist Church in Kewanee. Rev. Martin Gutzmer will officiate. Burial will be in the Pleasant View Cemetery, Kewanee, Il. Visitation will be from 5-7 P.M. Wednesday, June 27th at the Schueneman-Tumbleson Funeral Home, Kewanee, Il.
