Rene J. Schoutteet, 84, of Kewanee, passed away Wednesday morning, July 4, 2012 at his home.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 AM, Monday, July 9 at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church. Celebrant will be Rev. Tony Lee. Visitation will be held from 2:00-4:00 PM, Sunday, July 8 at Rux Funeral Home in Kewanee with a rosary being recited at 3:45 PM. Burial will be in Pleasant View Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to the family for a memorial to be established.
He was born April 3, 1928 in St. Margriete, Belgium, the son of Cyriel and Anna (Boelens) Schoutteet. He married Patricia Thornbrugh on January 8, 1949 in Annawan. She survives, as do a son, Roger (Teresa) Schoutteet of Geneseo, two daughters, Kathy (Mark) Slavens of Spooner, WI and Carol (David) Ryan of Kewanee, a daughter-in-law, Mary Schoutteet of Kewanee, grandchildren, Nathan (Amy) Ryan of Tinley Park, IL, Shane Ryan of Woodridge, IL, Curt Ryan of Sun Prairie, WI, Brian (Nikki) Schoutteet of Plainfield, IL, Rebecca (Ty) Palmer of Kewanee, Brett (Louvenia) Schoutteet of Galva and Austin Schoutteet of Geneseo, great grandchildren, Ethan, Hailey and Riley Schoutteet, Owen Ryan, Victoria Ryan, Joshua and Luke Ryan, Jacob and Ella Palmer and Colton Schoutteet, a sister, Elsie VanDeSampel of Kewanee and his beloved dog, Tiki. He was preceded in death by his parents, son, Ronald "Ron" Schoutteet and great grandson, Caden Schoutteet.
Rene farmed in the Kewanee area for 42 years until his retirement in 1992. He was a member of St. Francis of Assisi Catholic and had been a member of the Flemish American Club. He enjoyed playing cards, playing pool, farming, traveling and reading, especially about history. He thoroughly enjoyed his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
