LeRoy E. Wirth, 81, of Wyanet died Saturday, August 4, 2012 at University of Iowa Hospital, Iowa City, IA after complications from heart surgery. Funeral mass will be held at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, August 9th at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, Sheffield. Father Mark Miller will officiate. Burial will be in St. Patrick’s Catholic Cemetery, Sheffield. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday at Stackhouse-Moore Funeral Services, Sheffield where a rosary will be recited at 4:15 p.m. on Wednesday. Memorial may be made to charity of donor’s choice.LeRoy was born May 18, 1931 in rural Prophetstown, IL the son of Edward L. and Mabel M. (Specht) Wirth. He graduated from Manlius High School. LeRoy was a sergeant in the National Guard serving in Korea as a tank driver where he was wounded and received the Purple Heart. He married Carol L. Hackwith on Feb. 27, 1954 in St. Patrick’s Church, Sheffield. She died on Aug. 17, 1987. LeRoy had farmed for several years. He was founder of Hickory Grove Hunting and Camping. LeRoy also owned and operated Hidden Lake Country Club, Sheffield until retiring in 2010.

Survivors include a daughter, Terry (Gary) Hoelle, Princeton; sons, Michael (Laurie) Wirth, Wyanet and Chris Wirth, Mineral; eight grandchildren, Tara Flint, Ben and Adam Wirth, Hannah, Ian and Jacob Wirth, and Michael and Lisa Hoelle; brother, Duane Wirth, Mineral and sister, Dorothy Stephenson, Cape Coral, FL. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, and a brother, Eugene.
