David "Dave" C. Gibson

KEWANEE - David C. “Dave” Gibson, 51, of Kewanee, died at 3:48 PM, Monday, March 11, 2013 in the emergency room at Kewanee Hospital.
Cremation has been accorded and a memorial service will be held at 2:00 PM, Saturday, March 16 at Rux Funeral Home in Kewanee. Visitation will be held from noon until the time of the service at the funeral home. Inurnment will be held at Evergreen Memory Gardens in rural Kewanee at a later date. Memorials may be directed to the Dave Gibson Memorial Fund.
He was born June 20, 1961 in Galesburg, the son of Roger and Carol L. (Folger) Gibson. He married Jeanette Caldwell. She survives, as do his mother of Galesburg, his daughter, Elizabeth Gibson and her boyfriend, Richard Garms of Kewanee, two brothers, Steve (Dawn) Gibson of Galesburg and Jeff (Andrea) Gibson of Port Orange, FL, several nieces and nephews, three great nieces and a great nephew. He was preceded in death by his father.
Dave graduated from Galesburg High School in 1979 and then from Carl Sandburg College in 1981 with an Associates Degree. He worked in the Asset Protection Division at the Wal-Mart Distribution Center in Spring Valley and since 1995 was the “Great Outdoors” columnist for the Kewanee Star Courier. He was a member of the House Terrafine with the Society of Creative Anarchism and took part in the Jubilee College State Park Olde English Faire. He was also a book illustrator, potter, artist, photographer, a broom maker at Bishop Hill and most recently a poet. Dave was an all around Renaissance Man who enjoyed fishing, hunting or as he referred to it, “Boone Docking,” wood carving and photographing wildlife.
