Ruth V. VerShaw, 90, of Kewanee died 11:26 a.m. Tuesday, March 19, 2013 at Courtyard Estates Kewanee. Funeral services will be 2:30 P.M. Friday, March 22, 2013 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church Kewanee, with the Rev. Burnell Eckhardt officiating. Visitation will be from 6-8 P.M. Thursday at Schueneman & Tumbleson funeral home. Burial will be in the Wethersfield Cemetery. Memorials are to the St. Paul’s Lutheran Church Building Fund. Ruth was born, August 24, 1922 in Kewanee daughter of Emil and Anna (Winter) Brose. Ruth was reared and educated in Wethersfield schools, graduating in 1940. Ruth married Joseph VerShaw, May 1,1947 in Kewanee. He preceded her in death in 1996, as well as 1 brother Bill Thomas, and a sister Mary in infancy.
Surviving are 2 sons, Jim (Nancy) VerShaw of Tyler, TX., and Mike (Karen) VerShaw of Kewanee. 4 grandchildren survive Anna, John, Tanner, and Madison. 1 sister survives Mildred Conklin of St. Charles, MO.
Ruth worked for 25 years at J.C. Penney’s in Kewanee from which she retired. Ruth was a lifelong member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church of Kewanee, having served on the finance committee of the church, and also the Altar Guild. She enjoyed gardening, playing bridge, and spending time with her family.
