Sherry Lee Painter, 62, of Geneseo passed away Thursday, March 28, 2013 at her home with her family at her side. Funeral services for Sherry will be 11:00 AM Saturday, March 30, 2013 at Vandemore Funeral Home, Geneseo. Deacon Harley Chafee will officiate. Burial will follow in Oakwood Cemetery, Geneseo. Visitation for Sherry will be 10-11 AM (1 hour prior to the service) at the funeral home. Memorials may be left to the Sherry L. Painter Memorial Fund.
Sherry was born July 31, 1950 in Geneseo, IL the daughter of Warren J. “Lefty” and Mary Alice (Howarth) Painter. She worked at the Rock Island Arsenal as a Machinist. Sherry was among the first women to become a machinist at the Rock Island Arsenal, graduating from their apprenticeship program. She enjoyed antiquing and was a fixture at area auctions. Sherry loved the simplicity and beauty of antiques and quilts. She loved reading, especially mysteries and science fiction, and enjoyed spending time with family and friends. Sherry was a great listener and had a heart of gold.
Survivors include 1 brother: Joseph Painter of Geneseo; 3 sisters: Debra (Greg) Jansen of Lone Tree, IA, Kimberly (Jessica) Painter of Iowa City, Iowa, and Mary Painter of Geneseo, IL; and 2 nephews: Daniel and Michael Jansen of Lone Tree, IA.
