St. Louis Cardinals pitcher Joe Kelly is dealing with a leg injury that forced him out of yesterday's start against the Brewers in Milwaukee. The right-hander laid down a bunt and grabbed his hamstring after getting thrown out at first base to end the fifth inning. Kelly immediately called for the team trainer and limped off the field. He gave up three hits and one run in four innings before leaving the game.
Wily Peralta pitched one-run ball into the seventh inning as the Brewers beat the Cardinals 5-1 at Miller Park. Peralta allowed six hits and a walk over six and a third innings to improve to 2-and-0 with the win. Aramis Ramirez went 3-for-4 with an RBI and Jonathan Lucroy singled home two runs for Milwaukee, which salvaged the finale of the three-game series. Joe Kelly gave up just an unearned run in four innings, but took the loss. He left in the fifth when he pulled up lame trying to run out a bunt. Allen Craig homered and Yadier Molina and Jon Jay had two hits apiece for St. Louis.
